MANSFIELD -- State Rep. Jay Goyal, D-Mansfield, has initiated a series of meetings to discuss education funding in Ohio and gauge how the governor's education budget will impact schools, parents and students.

A March 5 conference call with local superintendents offered the state legislator a summary of district funding needs.

It also outlined how Gov. Ted Strickland's suggested changes to Ohio's public education system will affect local school districts.

Goyal plans a local education summit March 27 at the Mid Ohio Educational Service Center. District superintendents, school board members and other administrators have been invited.

The public is invited to an Education Town Hall March 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room of Mansfield-Richland County Public Library, 43 West Third St., Mansfield.

"The goal of the proposed education budget is to create a real solution to our funding problem," Goyal said. "Though the next two years may be difficult, this budget works to create a long-term change which will yield a better funded education system."
